Your first no-sew mouse

What you'll need

• 1 sheet grey felt, 1 sheet pink felt
• Fabric glue (fast-tack, not school glue)
• 2 small googly eyes
• Pink embroidery thread, for whiskers
• Fabric scissors

Fits

Index or middle finger, ages 6 and up. Scale the template 110% for adult hands.

Steps

1. Cut two matching grey felt ovals sized to wrap snugly around your finger.
2. Glue the two ovals together along the sides, leaving the bottom open for your finger.
3. Cut two small pink felt circles for ears and glue to the top edge.
4. Attach googly eyes just below the ears with a dot of glue.
5. Thread three short lengths of embroidery thread through for whiskers, knot on the inside.
6. Let dry flat for 10 minutes before its stage debut.

Common mistakes

• Using school glue instead of fabric glue — it dries stiff and cracks within a few uses.
• Cutting the body too narrow, which makes it painful to get on and off your finger.
• Gluing whiskers before the ears are fully dry, which drags them out of place.

Variations to try

• Swap the pink felt for white and add tiny black dot eyes for a classic lab-mouse look.
• Add a long tail from a strip of matching felt for a mouse that can 'wrap' around a second finger.
• Make three in graduated sizes for a quick parent-and-two-babies set.
